Donations go to three food banks in US for disaster relief announced today that it is giving $27,000 for humanitarian relief to the Mississippi Food Network, the Mid-South Food Bank, and the Bay Area Food Bank. All three organizations are dealing with the aftermath of floods or tornadoes in their region.

The Mississippi Food Network serves 56 counties. Currently, they are working with agencies in a number of flood impacted areas and coordinating food distribution in Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenville, and Port Gibson. "We expect the bulk of our need for food and cleaning supplies will be when the water recedes and families begin going back to their homes. We continue to acquire product and are keeping close contact with our member agencies in the affected areas," said Marilyn Blackledge, Director of Development.

The Mid-South Food Bank in Tennessee has been providing disaster relief for 31-county service area impacted by floods and tornadoes, including getting food and supplies to emergency shelters, local food pantries, soup kitchens, and other agencies providing meals and/or food to those affected by these natural disasters. For those returning to devastated homes, Mid-South Food Bank provides cleaning supplies, paper products, personal care items, and other non-food items needed.

When tornadoes hit Alabama on May 4, the Bay Area Food Bank, which is based in Theodore, responded with two mobile pantries that distributed more than 15,000 pounds in Choctaw County. Additional distributions were made in Clarke and Washington Counties. The food bank also loaned their tractor trailer, driver, and a 24-foot refrigerated box trailer to assist with relief efforts in Tucaloosa and outlying communities. Throughout the year, the food bank serves 24 counties and distributes more than 13 million pounds of food annually through shelters, soup kitchens, youth programs, senior brown bag/food box distribution, daycares, and more. They continue to expect increased calls for their services as the area rebuilds following the tornadoes.
