GreaterGood.org’s recent grant to Feed Our Vets arrived just as the organization was wondering how to fill empty pantry shelves.
"Our coffers have been running low lately, and we were forced to postpone our Mobile Pantry Unit from going to Watertown, NY. Nothing bothers Feed Our Vets more then knowing that we are letting our veterans down by not being able to provide the food they and their families need to survive," wrote Janel Couture.
Feed Our Vets plans to use their grant of $10,000 to restock their supplies. "This grant will ensure that we will be able to continue our mission to provide good, nutritious food to United States Veterans whose circumstances have left them on the battlefield of hunger. We can't begin to express how grateful Feed Our Vets is to the GreaterGood.org. The effect that this money will directly have on our veteran's lives is immeasurable," said Couture.
Feed Our Vets executive director Richard Synek is a U.S. Navy veteran who started the group after hearing from veterans in his community about how they or their families often went hungry during the month.
More than 3,000 pounds of food are distributed to veterans of all ages at a typical Feed Our Vets visit to the Watertown VA center.
