At Feeding America, their stories, and the stories of other Americans like them, put a real face on the problem of hunger.
One in six Americans are struggling with hunger. Every day, Feeding America’s network of food banks helps them cope.
At their website, Feeding America shares their stories, making people aware of the problem and how it impacts their neighborhoods. Each year, they also give an overview of the growing need for their programs. In 2010, Feeding America found that the number of Americans receiving their help has increased of 46 percent since 2006, from 25 million Americans, including 9 million children, each year to 37 million Americans, including 14 million children. Today one in eight Americans now rely on Feeding America for food and groceries.
Thirty-six percent of the households served have at least one person working. More than one-third of client households report having to choose between food and other basic necessities, such as rent, utilities and medical care.
GreaterGood.org supports Feeding America and their programs through Gifts That Give More [tm] and contributions from The Hunger Site.
