Frequently Asked Questions about GreaterGood

I can't find the button; or your new site isn't loading or working correctly. Help!

The colored Click-To-Give button is located in the upper-right section of the homepage of The Veterans Site, and is labeled "Click here - it's FREE!" If you are having trouble seeing the button, or if other parts of the top section of the page are improperly formatted on top of the button, try clearing your cache by holding down your shift key and reloading the page.

If the problem persists, you may be using an outdated browser version. Although we work hard to accommodate the most recent versions of the most widely-used browsers, making the site function with very old or outdated browser versions requires a heavy investment in both time and resources. As such, GreaterGood has made a conscious decision to stop supporting very old versions in order to focus our resources on raising funds to help our partner charities. Our goal is to support them in their ongoing efforts to help people, animals, and the environment.

We continue to support many of the most recent versions of popular browsers, but if you are using Internet Explorer 7 or earlier, or an old version of an uncommon browser, your experience on our website may be affected. Please consider updating your browser. Click here to see some of the most popular browsers, and update to the current version of your favorites.

Why am I seeing ads?

Network advertising on The Veterans Site helps cover the costs of running the site. We do not accept advertising for gambling, pornography, liquor, firearms, or tobacco products. We do not accept ads we believe to be deceptive, ads from spammers, or ads inappropriate to our mission. However, we do run network ads, and while we try to block ads that violate our standards, there may be occasions when inappropriate ads are shown.

Why am I seeing political or inappropriate ads?

Network advertising on The Veterans Site helps cover the costs of running the site. We do not accept advertising for gambling, animal breeders, pornography, liquor, firearms, or tobacco products. We do not accept ads we believe to be deceptive, ads from spammers, politically charged and biased ads, or ads inappropriate to our mission. However, we do run network ads, and while we try to block ads that violate our standards, some ads are not screened before they run and there may be occasions when inappropriate ads are shown.

The best way to help us block an inappropriate or politically charged ad is to send the URL and a screenshot of the ad to customerservice@greatergood.com. You can right-click the ad to copy the URL, and you can use the "snipping tool" in Windows or command+shift+4 on a Mac to activate a selection tool that will create a screenshot. With this information, we will be much better equipped to find the offending advertiser among the many legitimate ads that appear, and block it from our sites. We genuinely appreciate your help, and value your feedback.

What is a “Click To Give” website?

Our "Click To Give" websites give people a simple, quick, and easy way to make a difference daily. Our first "Click To Give" website, The Hunger Site, was launched in 1999. Since then we have added many more. To date, activities on this website and others at GreaterGood have given almost $30 million to charity.

How is Clicking is Free?

In just a few seconds each day, visitors can click on the large colored button on each home page and, at no cost to them, support causes they care about. Donations are paid for by the website's sponsors and distributed by GreaterGood.org and its charity partners.

To learn more about current projects supported by these programs, please see the GreaterGood blog.

100% of sponsor advertising fees goes to our charitable partners.

How Does Shopping Give Even More?

Every GreaterGood store offers a wide array of items that support your cause. A portion of every purchase is donated to a charity in the cause you care most about. Just by selecting where you shop, you direct this donation to hunger and poverty relief, animal rescue, fighting breast cancer, or one of the other causes at GreaterGood.

Together, your free daily click and your purchasing power through GreaterGood's web stores create a powerful, positive force for good.

How does the site work?

When you click on the homepage button, your click is counted by our servers and you move to the Thank You page, where you will see small ads for our site sponsors. There is no charge to you; the click donation is fully paid for by these sponsors.

100% of sponsor advertising fees goes to our charitable partners.

These donations are distributed to our charity partners throughout the year by the 501c3 nonprofit GreaterGood.org. The more people who click, the more we can give.

Who pays for click donations?

Site sponsors purchase small ads on the Thank You page for a certain amount of time. GreaterGood then tabulates the number of people who click during that time frame and bill the sponsor for the appropriate amount.

How do you calculate what is given by daily clicks?

We count the number of clicks each day. The amount paid for those clicks is based on the type and structure of advertising agreement the site sponsors have with GreaterGood.

The two keys to the success of the "Click To Give" program are site sponsors and visitors like you. The more sponsors the site has, the more funding toward the cause is given with each click. The more visitors who click each day, the more advertising fees we can collect and the more we can give to others!

How often can I click?

You can click once a day, every day of the year on GreaterGood's Click to Give™ sites. Our agreement with our sponsors allows us to count one click, per person, per calendar day. A monitoring system is set up to check this. While you could click on the button ten or a hundred or a thousand times, we will only count one click from you. In the meantime, our system could be slowed down, possibly overloaded, preventing other visitors' clicks from generating funding. Please note that we count clicks received through company firewalls, proxy servers, etc., to the best of our ability. We count every click as fairly and accurately as possible.

How much good can a single click do?

Please see our Results — How You're Helping page for a detailed breakdown of funding generated for this website. When hundreds of thousands of people click daily, we literally fund millions of cups of food distributed, acres of rainforest saved, hundreds of people helped, and so much more. And it all starts with a single click from you!

Are cookies required to count my click?

You do not have to accept cookies in order to click and have your click count!

For enhanced site visitor experience, we may use a cookie to store your click history. This would only be used to display your click history to you, and is purely optional. In addition, some of our site underwriters may use cookies in the process of displaying their sponsor ads. In any case, you are not required to accept cookies to click.

When does the new calendar day start?

The new calendar day starts at midnight United States Pacific Standard Time. This is 08:00 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

What are GreaterGood stores?

GreaterGood stores allow you to give even more back to your favorite cause! Every time you purchase one of the 7000+ products that we carry, including jewelry, apparel, and gifts, you're making a donation to charity -- at no extra cost to you! For each item purchased in one of GreaterGood's online stores, we give a portion of the item's retail price to charity. Many of our items also support specific fair trade or nonprofit associations in addition to this donation. Read the item description to learn more.

What is the Take Action Center?

The Take Action Center provides another free and easy way site visitors to GreaterGood websites can engage in issues they identify with and care about. Become informed about important issues in our busy, complicated world, show your support by signing a pledge or petition, and pass along your new knowledge to friends, family, and colleagues!

Take Action campaigns sponsored and paid for by third parties do not necessarily represent the views of The Veterans Site. These campaigns provide an opportunity to raise awareness about current, relevant topics. We encourage you to contact sponsors directly with your feedback.

Are you a nonprofit organization? Can I donate to you?

We partner with an independently run 501c3 nonprofit, GreaterGood.org, to oversee the distribution of all charitable funding. 100% of the funds raised for charity by GreaterGood are distributed to our non-profit partner, GreaterGood.org. Grants are then paid by GreaterGood.org to charities and non-profit organizations implementing programs in GreaterGood.org's mission areas. All expenditures made are consistent with the exempt purposes of GreaterGood.org.

While you cannot donate to a website name, i.e. The Hunger Site or The Breast Cancer Site, you can support your favorite projects, charity partners, or causes through the Gifts That Give program hosted on any GreaterGood website. Just click on the link that says Gifts That Give More™ to make an online donation.

If you do not want to select a specific cause, charity, or project, you can make a general donation to GreaterGood.org, and their board will select the appropriate project or charity to support.

GreaterGood.org grants are focused on, but not limited to, addressing the health and well-being of people (particularly women and children), animals, and the planet. GreaterGood.org grants funds generated through GreaterGood websites to more than 130 charitable organizations worldwide responsible for implementing the programs and projects named on these sites.
