Goal: 15,000 Progress: 2,925
Sponsored by: The Veterans Site

On any night, an estimated 200,000 veterans are homeless. Meanwhile, close to two million veterans are at risk. Even more shocking, veterans make up over a third of homeless individuals in the US.

One way we can combat growing veteran homelessness is by tackling issues early-on that might put a former service member at risk of having to live on the streets.

Through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, the Department of Veterans Affairs recently made $100 million available to community agencies that help low-income veterans get back on their feet.

The SSVF assists veterans through various resources such as counseling, financial help, child care, job training, and more. The funding for these programs helps veterans move themselves out of the risk of homelessness.

Thank the VA for providing the necessary funding so that America's veterans can get the support they need to succeed after service.

To whom it may concern at the Department of Veterans Affairs:

In America, homeless veterans make up one third of the country's homeless population. And with our troops in Iraq returning home by January, right now more than ever is the time to address veteran homelessness.

The VA recently made $100 million available to community agencies across the country that are dedicated to helping veterans get back on their feet. These organizations provide counseling, financial assistance, education, child care, and more so that former service members have the tools they need to build or rebuild their lives after service.

I would like to formally thank you for allocating these funds to the cause of preventing veteran homelessness. These brave men and women have fought for their country, and now it's time their country fights for them.

Thank you for your concern and attention to America's veterans.
