We cannot underestimate the importance and value our military spouses contribute to our country. Sign today!

There are few people who know the true meaning of patience and virtue better than a military spouse. Military spouses are the ones who sit on the sidelines, supporting their husbands and wives, enduring lengthy deployments and making sure life at home runs smoothly. We cannot underestimate the importance and value our military spouses contribute to our country.

That's why we have an obligation to make sure veterans' spouses are cared for and protected accordingly. Under current law, military spouses are only permitted to keep a limited amount of financial resources in order to obtain VA benefits. In fact, the VA hasn't adjusted this number since 2002.

It's time to bring the number of allowable financial assets to current levels. Sign the petition asking Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki to close the gap and make sure veterans' spouses receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

The Petition:

Dear Secretary Shinseki,

Our veterans have dedicated their lives and fought for our country on the front lines of war. But behind the scenes, it's our military spouses who must fight to take care of the family at home. They endure long deployments, often the only parental figure within a family for months or even years on end.

That's why it's so important that we do all we can to take care of our military spouses. Currently, the VA bars spouses of veterans from having over a certain amount of assets in order to receive VA benefits. This number hasn't been updated since 2002 and doesn't account for increases in the cost of living since then.

Military spouse provide the backbone of support and courage a family needs when one of its members is deployed on active duty. Please do all you can to ensure these spouses are cared for the way they deserve to be.

Sincerely,
